Lambda Chi has been at the University of Texas since 1917 and has been highly successful over the years, initiating over 2,000 men into our UT brotherhood. Today we have 120 active members, including men studying Engineering, Business, Plan II, RTF, Fine Arts, Advertising, pre-law, pre-med, Geology, and other majors. Together we play IM sports, participate in philanthropic activities, enjoy strong social lives, and develop leadership skills while forming lifelong friendships.
In the past year we won IM championships in tennis, and we made the championship game in IM Football, Soccer, and Basketball. We also had one of the top IM teams in softball, golf, volleyball, dodgeball, kickball, and ultimate. We were the only fraternity to participate in the Intramural swim meet and the IM track meet, and we had a blast. We play broomball every semester, and in 2014 we went indoor skydiving, tubing, canoeing, fishing, camping, waterskiing, zip-lining, bowling, and more.
We’re about more than sports. For our Feeding America philanthropy, we brought in over 50,000 pounds of food to the Capital Area Food Bank. We also encourage participation and leadership in other student organizations, and have members in the Texas Cowboys, Order of Omega, Texas Thon, UT Polo team, UT Cycling team, Homecoming Committee, UT Music & Entertainment Committee, IFC, Rocketry Association, Texas Blazers, Young Life, Entrepreneurial orgs, honor societies, political clubs, pre-professional groups such as the national Professional Cinema Fraternity, pre-med, pre-law, engineering, and many more.
Leadership and social skills are also developed within the chapter. We have 15 elected offices, several others appointed, and everyone else actively serves the chapter through our committee system. Whatever aspect of chapter life you’re interested in learning more about, and helping improve, you’ll have that opportunity through Lambda Chi. We’ve got a great social program, from tailgates to mixers to our White Rose Formal and Parent’s Weekend Casino Party.
Grades always come first. Last Fall we had the top fraternity new member GPA, with a 3.408, well above the UT average. To help, we offer free tutoring for any brother in need. Our graduation rate is also ahead of UT’s 6-year 80% mark: since 2010, we’re on pace for 97% of our men to graduate.
We have alumni in just about every field: producers to politicians; attorneys to accountants; engineers to athletes. Hundreds of alumni return each semester for our reunions, and some speak with the chapter and provide life and career advice. With over 280,000 Lambda Chi initiates world-wide, from over 300 universities, you’ll have an opportunity to receive mentoring from brothers who understand whatever industry you hope to join.
